Detroit is America’s great comeback city. The scene is urban, the streets are walkable and the vibe is energetic, young and moving forward whether you’re in the city’s many museums, restaurants, shops, theaters or sports arenas.

Premium bike makers, celebrity men's clothing designers, longtime athletic and workwear manufacturers have shop fronts downtown and more are opening every day.

Detroit also satisfies with a culinary scene erupting with creativity. This is where the deep-dish square pizza reigns supreme and the Coney dog was first assembled. It is also the city American media now call a food mecca with countless new gastro pubs, distilleries, French bistros and burger bars, many featuring locally grown ingredients.

Detroit is a destination bursting with action outdoors as well, from a riverfront with a miles-long scenic walkway and a downtown park with a beach in summer and ice rink in winter, to an island sanctuary with waterways to paddle upon and an ancient railway transformed into a bike trail with artistic expressions.

Experience the different sides of Detroit through several concentrated areas with their own personalities, from Midtown, Corktown and Greektown to Mexicantown and Hamtramck. Or venture to the city’s surrounding suburbs. All offer shopping, dining and nightlife with their own ethnic flavors.

Music and the automobile have been, and always will be, a part of Detroit’s fabric. This is the city where the Motown sound was first recorded, where electronic music fans gather annually and live music events happening daily. It’s the birthplace of the auto industry and home to the site where the first Ford Model T was built.

Detroit remains on the move, too, expanding its public transportation to include the 3.3-mile QLine streetcar along downtown’s Woodward Avenue – a perfect complement to the Detroit People Mover light-rail system and new public bike share programs. Construction also moves forward on The District Detroit, a compilation of downtown businesses, parks, restaurants and event destinations. The area’s completed Little Caesars Arena is already the celebrated home to Detroit’s Red Wings and Pistons, making the city the only destination in the nation with four major sports teams playing within a few walkable blocks of each other.
