Diefenbunker - Canada's Cold War Museum
Looking for a different site for your tours to visit? For visitors interested in culture and history, the Diefenbunker Cold War Museum has been named Canada's most significant Cold War site. This National Historic Site of Canada, located just outside the capital city of Ottawa, is a 1000,000 square foot, underground nuclear bunker built during the height of the Cold War (1959-1961). As the Central Emergency Headquarters, it was meant to house the top government and military officials in the event of a nuclear attack.
Tours of this incredibly unique facility take visitors through a time warp to 1960s era government rooms, living quarters, and cryptographic areas. Some of the focal points include the Prime Minister's suite, the War Cabinet Room, the Bank of Canada Vault, the CBC Radio studio, and the Emergency Government Situation Centre.
